History
WE HAVE A LONG HISTORY AS THE CREDIT UNION YOU CAN TRUST.
Our Credit Union was chartered on March 19, 1954. Originally known as Escambia County Teachers Credit Union, our member-owned, non-profit institution was formed for the purpose of encouraging savings by offering a good return on member investments.
We began by offering loans at competitively low interest rates and providing other services to meet our members’ financial needs. Our new Credit Union brought together members of a defined field of membership to operate democratically under state and federal law and regulations.
Over the next 25 years, we grew substantially. It quickly became evident that to remain in keeping with our original charter goals, we would need to grow with our community. We expanded our membership base to encompass Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties.
Membership was open to school district administrative, instructional and instructional-support employees, and was soon expanded to include current and former students of the geographical area. With our exceptional growth, we updated our name to Education Credit Union of Northwest Florida, which was more fitting of our new membership.
Then, in 1996, we decided to put our philosophy into our name, and we became Members First Credit Union of Florida.
More than 70 years after starting in a small office space donated by the Escambia School District, our Credit Union now operates out of several full-service branches, but we have never lost sight of our origin. We proudly serve our community with membership open to everyone who works, lives or attends school in Escambia, Santa Rosa or Okaloosa counties.
As your financial partner, our goal has always been to put our members first.
