Members First Credit Union of Florida is committed to supporting financial literacy through creative programs like our sponsorship of the Credit Counseling program at the Louis Maygarden Center for Financial Literacy and our Student-Staffed Credit Union branches. Our goal is to create an environment that teaches both financial literacy and establishes the blueprint for a healthy financial future. Our financial literacy programs encourage fiscal responsibility and promote money-management skills, because we know that financial awareness impacts a person at every stage of life.
Members First Credit Counseling & Financial Fitness Coaching
Members First Credit Union of Florida sponsors the Louis Maygarden Center for Financial Literacy's counseling services at the University of West Florida. The Maygarden Center for Financial Literacy offers free credit counseling and is open to all individuals in the community. All credit counselors in the Consumer Credit Counseling Center are certified credit counselors and members of the National Association of Certified Credit Counselors. Get one-on-one consultation with a certified credit counselor to:
- Work through debt crisis
- Address life-changing financial matters
Additionally members may seek assistance from, Members First Credit Union of Florida Financial Fitness Coach and Chief Lending Officer, Joanne Hyatt, to help:
- Gain control of you finances
- Create a solid plan for financial stability
- Work through debt managent strategies
- And more

Our members may also request to meet with a certified credit counselor at our Nine Mile Rd Branch or our financial fitness coach at our Garden St Branch by completing the form below.
Student-Staffed Credit Union Branches
Our Student-Staffed Credit Union Branch program brings real-world financial litearcy and education into the school and allows students to gain experience that will prepare them for college and future careers. Students will earn course credit and gain hands-on experience running the daily operations of the Credit Union Branch with the guidance of credit union staff members. The program:
- Provides financial education to students
- Encourages personal financial responsibility
- Develops leadership skills
- Promotes practical math applications
- Cultivates career awareness and employability skills

As part of our mission to foster financial literacy and wellness, educators and learners alike have access to engaging video content and lesson plans that teach about important financial topics like building a budget, how to spot scams, what to do after graduation, and more.
Financial Literacy Seminar
