How Do You Get a Copy of Your Credit Report9/6/2024

The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003 (FACTA) grants you one free credit report every year from each of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies:

You can request one, two, or all three reports at the same time, or space out your requests over a 12-month period.

Should you request all your reports at one time?

It really depends on your goals. An advantage to ordering all your reports at one time is that you're able to compare the information each of the credit bureaus has collected on you. However, if you stagger your requests and opt to order a report every four months, you'll be able to spot errors or unauthorized activity that has occurred sooner.

How to order your reports.

You can order your free credit reports at annualcreditreport.com. You can also request your reports by calling toll free (877) 322-8228, or by completing this Annual Credit Report Request Form and mailing it to:

Annual Credit Report Service
P.O. Box 105281
Atlanta, GA 30348-5281

Phone and mail requests are processed within 15 days of receipt.

What do you need to provide to request your credit report?

To request your credit report, you'll need to provide information like:

  • Your name
  • Current and previous addresses
  • Telephone number
  • Social Security Number (SSN)
  • Date of birth

Additional information may be required to verify your identity, such as a copy of your driver's license or a statement of your account from your credit union.
